How much does it cost to send bitcoin right now?
On November 5, 2026, a Bitcoin transfer at the normal rate costs 1.01 sat/vB: 143 sat, about $0.11, for a typical 141 vB transaction, with confirmation expected in about 1 h 40 min. If you can wait, the low rate of 1.01 sat/vB comes to about $0.11. Litecoin is the cheapest of the four networks today, at $0.000078 per transfer.

}feePerKb is in BTC per kilobyte: 0.00001008 BTC/kB is 1.01 sat/vB.
In the REST response feePerKb is in whole coins per kilobyte, the unit Bitcoin Core uses: multiply it by 100,000 to get sat/vB, so 0.00001 BTC/kB is 1 sat/vB. Requests without a key have a low rate limit, and a free key from the dashboard raises it. With the ChainGate SDK, getFeeRate() on a network explorer returns the same four levels, and a transfer offers them through recommendedFees().
How the fee is worked out
Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Bitcoin Cash all price a transaction by its size, so the same formula works on the four networks:
fee = transaction size × fee rate
The size depends on the address type, on how many coins the payment spends (inputs) and on how many addresses it pays (outputs). These are the sizes of a payment with one input and two outputs, the recipient plus your change:
| Network and address type | Address starts with | Size | Each extra input |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin, Native SegWit | bc1q… | 141 vB | +68 vB |
| Bitcoin, Taproot | bc1p… | 154 vB | +57.5 vB |
| Bitcoin, Nested SegWit | 3… | 166 vB | +91 vB |
| Bitcoin, Legacy | 1… | 226 vB | +148 vB |
| Litecoin, Native SegWit | ltc1q… | 141 vB | +68 vB |
| Litecoin, Nested SegWit | M… | 166 vB | +91 vB |
| Litecoin, Legacy | L… | 226 vB | +148 vB |
| Dogecoin, Standard address | D… | 226 bytes | +148 bytes |
| Bitcoin Cash, Standard address | q… | 226 bytes | +148 bytes |
The amount sent is not part of the formula. Sending 0.001 BTC or 10 BTC from the same coin costs the same, while a payment that has to gather twenty small coins costs about ten times more than one that spends a single coin.
Who receives the fee, why it spikes and what to do when it is too low are covered in the Bitcoin fees guide.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the Bitcoin fee right now?
On November 5, 2026 the ChainGate API puts the normal Bitcoin rate at 1.01 sat/vB, with confirmation expected in about 1 h 40 min. A typical 141 vB transfer pays 143 sat, about $0.11 at $79,648 per BTC. The low rate is 1.01 sat/vB (about $0.11, around 3 h 20 min) and the maximum is 1.94 sat/vB (about $0.22, around 10 min).
Which is cheapest to send right now: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin or Bitcoin Cash?
On November 5, 2026 a typical transfer at the normal rate costs $0.000078 on Litecoin, $0.00065 on Bitcoin Cash, $0.0025 on Dogecoin and $0.11 on Bitcoin. Litecoin is 1,500 times cheaper than Bitcoin.
How much does it cost to send Litecoin right now?
On November 5, 2026 the normal Litecoin rate is 1 sat/vB, so a typical 141 vB transfer pays 0.00000141 LTC, about $0.000078 at $55.22 per LTC. Confirmation is expected in about 25 min; Litecoin aims for a block every 2.5 minutes.
How much is the Dogecoin transaction fee today?
On November 5, 2026 the normal Dogecoin rate is 0.143 DOGE/kB. A typical 226-byte transfer pays 0.0323 DOGE, about $0.0025 at $0.0759 per DOGE, with confirmation expected in about 10 min. Dogecoin aims for a block every minute.
What is the Bitcoin Cash fee right now?
On November 5, 2026 the normal Bitcoin Cash rate is 1 sat/byte. A typical 226-byte transfer pays 226 sat, about $0.00065 at $289 per BCH, with confirmation expected in about 1 h 40 min.
Where do these fee rates come from?
From the ChainGate API. Its fee rate endpoint returns four priority levels for Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Bitcoin Cash, each with a rate per kilobyte and an expected confirmation time, and its market data endpoint returns the USD prices. The tracker asks for both every 30 seconds, and you can call the same endpoints from your own code with a free API key.
How is the fee calculated?
Multiply the size of the transaction by the rate. On Bitcoin and Litecoin the size is in virtual bytes and the rate in sat/vB: a typical native SegWit transfer is 141 vB, so at 2 sat/vB it pays 282 sat. Dogecoin and Bitcoin Cash count plain bytes, and a typical transfer there is 226 bytes. The amount you send does not change the fee. Each extra coin your wallet has to spend does, because it adds an input.
Why does my wallet suggest a different fee?
Wallets run their own fee estimates with their own confirmation targets, so two of them can disagree about the same block. The total also depends on your transaction: a wallet holding many small coins builds a bigger one. Compare the rate in sat/vB, since the total depends on the size, and if your wallet asks for a higher rate than the level you need, set the fee by hand where the wallet allows it.
How can I pay a lower fee?
Pick the low rate when the payment can wait. On Bitcoin, send from a native SegWit or Taproot address: a legacy transfer is about 60% larger at the same rate. Merge small coins into one while fees are low, so later payments need fewer inputs. If a payment gets stuck, replace-by-fee lets you raise the fee afterwards instead of overpaying up front.
Do Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Bitcoin Cash have gas fees?
No. Gas is how Ethereum and other EVM chains meter computation. These four networks charge for the space a transaction takes in a block, so the fee follows its size in bytes. The Bitcoin fees guide covers the model in depth, and the gas tracker has live gas prices for Ethereum and the EVM chains.
