What is the difference between base fee, priority fee and max fee?

Since EIP-1559 every Ethereum transaction has three gas price fields. The base fee is set by the protocol for each block and burned; everyone in the block pays the same base fee. The priority fee, or tip, goes to the validator and decides how quickly your transaction is picked up. The max fee is the ceiling you are willing to pay per unit of gas, and your wallet refunds the difference between it and base fee plus tip. The Low, Normal, High and Max tiers on this tracker combine the current base fee with four tip levels, so the number you see is what a transaction in that tier pays per unit of gas.

Why is my Ethereum transaction stuck as pending?

A transaction stays pending when its max fee is below the current base fee or its tip is too low for validators to include it. That happens when gas rises after you signed, or when a wallet reused a stale estimate. There are two fixes: speed it up by resubmitting the same nonce with a higher priority fee, or cancel it by sending a zero-value transaction to yourself with the same nonce and a higher fee.
